OEM Delco Remy Parts Last Updated 20 April 2001 Delco Remy markings are on a number of parts used in the Lotus Carltone Engine. Most of these are solenoids and actuators. I have not been able to find out as much information as I would like about these parts, but I have reproduced what little I do know here. If you can add anything to this, please let me know.
The complete ignition coil pack (last time I checked) costs £1561 from Vauxhall. You can get them a hell of a lot cheaper by going to the US. The coil pack (known as a DIS unit) consists of 5 parts - 3 identical coils, a coil carrier plate and the mounting bracket (plus a few bolts - but Ill ignore them). The 3 coils can be replaced individually if necessary. Their Vauxhall part number is 10472401, and this is the same as the AC Delco part number. In the states, P/n 10472401-D555 is a single ignition coil, costs $38.12, and is available from any AC Delco dealer. There must be several versions of the coil because they have cylinder markings on them. Each coil drives 2 cylinders, so (for example - not sure what the correct firing order is !) one will be marked (1-4), another marked (2-5) and the third (3-6). But electrically, they are all identical - its just the markings that are different. The coil carrier plate is P/n 10467202-D1998A and costs $152.56. This is not just a simple connecting plate. It does contain electronic trickery. My understanding is that it is usually this that fails, and VX are reluctant or unable to supply it on its own, and would rather charge you £1561 for a complete new unit. Again any AC Delco dealer will be able to get you one of these. The mounting bracket is simply a bit of aluminium bent to shape to bolt the DIS to the engine. This is the ONLY part of the DIS assembly that is unique to the LC/LO, and so not available elsewhere. But why would you need a new one of these ? Just unbolt the old DIS from your existing one, and bold on the new one. So a complete DIS unit (3 coils + carrier) would set you back $267, or about £185 if you bought it in the US. Therefore the bit of aluminium costs in excess of £1200. Maybe it isnt aluminium at all - perhaps it is pure unobtanium ! It's cheaper to buy a buisness class return ticket to the US, fly there, have a weeks holiday, buy a coil pack and fly home (via the green channel in customs) than it is to buy the thing from Vauxhall. And remember - both Vauxhall and AC Delco are owned by GM. How much can it cost to ship something across the Atlantic ! Apparantey, our 3 coil dis-pack is used on most GM 6 cylinder cars and trucks in the states. There is also an 8 cylinder (4 coil pack) version using the same coils, but obviously a different mounting plate. The only thing to be aware of is that most of these coil packs are used on V6, not straight 6 cars, and the firing order as marked on the DIS packs themselves is different. Lotus overcame this by using an hi-tech engineering solution - They stuck sticky labels on top of the markings on the original coil packs to indicate the correct straight 6 firing order! So if you source your own coils, make sure you connect the ignition leads in the correct order - the numbering on the pack could be wrong. |
